A Storm of Light - New Track Posted: New Release Announcement

Brooklyn's A Storm of Light have posted the new track "Midnight" from their upcoming Double LP/CD full-length effort, entitled Forgive Us Our Trespasses. The album finds its power through a dense bringing together of melodies, moods and textures, ensuring that while things are as heavy and cataclysmic as fans would expect, the devastating effects rely on interwoven melodies and graceful shifts in timbre, instead of a stream of identikit riffs.

The song can be found exclusively on A Storm of Light's myspace page, and their official website, astormoflight.com

Comprised of Josh Graham, Domenic Seita, Andy Rice and Joel Hamilton – Storm is joined by a host of carefully-chosen collaborators including vocalist Nerissa Campbell (Primitive North), the unique talents of Jarboe (Swans, World Of Skin, J2), the otherworldly spoken word segues of singer, poet and author Lydia Lunch and the mournful strings of Carla Kihlstedt (Book Of Knots, Sleepytime Gorilla Museum, 2 Foot Yard) and Marika Hughes (2 Foot Yard).

Forgive Us Our Trespasses will see a street date in September 2009 through Neurot Recordings, distributed by Revolver USA and Southern in Europe.

U.S. Christmas
Announce Tourdates to Atlanta Metal Fest!

NR logo

U.S. Christmas plays slow, loud, echoey and powerful psychedelic rock, reducing things to the essence of power chords and groove: even the guitar solos, such as they are, become sublimated within the fuzz and the unruly yelling of the singer, Nate Hall. - The NY Times

Thicker and deeper than Spacemen 3, they overuse their synth-space-noise in the same endearing way that the 13th Floor Elevators exploited the f*ck out of the “electric jug." - Decibel Magazine

A dark, psychedelic, sludgy trip through the deep south. - BrooklynVegan

Marion, North Carolina. God and devils, piss and venom.

The band U.S. Christmas has never strayed far from its roots. Its members were born and raised in or near the mountains of rural North Carolina, a place that will always be their home. Its culture, geography, history, and spiritual presence have a great influence on the band's sound.

Originally formed in the summer of 2002, U.S. Christmas has steadily evolved into a full-blown psychedelic assault. The music cannot be ignored. It hurts people - physically and mentally. It stirs intense feelings of pain, frustration, loss, fear, and occasionally - euphoria. The band always plays at deafening volumes. Shows are chaotic and unpredictable, riddled with synthesizer and theremin spasms. Images are projected onto the stage, the ceiling, or performers themselves. Many a drunken bystander has been drawn to the theremin's magic antennae.

* In 2008, U.S. Christmas made their live debut performing some of their first shows w/ Neurosis and Mastodon in Brooklyn, NY, followed by the band's Neurot Recordings' debut, Eat The Low Dogs. In 2009 the band announced they will head out on some dates of the Southeast leading up to the Scion Rock Fest where they will perform alongside labelmates Neurosis and A Storm Of Light, in addition to Torche, Harvey Milk, Mastodon, High on Fire, Converge, and many more, followed by a performance at Neurosis' Beyond The Pale taking place at the annual Roadburn Festival in Tilburg, Holland.

GRAILS, EARTH, GREY DATURAS & TRIBES OF NEUROT CONFIRMED FOR NEUROSIS' BEYOND THE PALE AT ROADBURN 2009

"Grails are one of my favorite bands of all time"--Steve Von Till, Neurosis.

Neurosis and Roadburn are very pleased to report that Grails, Earth, Grey Daturas & Tribes of Neurot have been confirmed for the inaugural European version of Neurosis' acclaimed Beyond The Pale festival, set to be held at Roadburn 2009 on Saturday, April 25, the 013 venue, Tilburg, Holland.

Steve Von Till comments: "Guitars more lyrical than most voices, drums more frantic than Keith Moon, instrumentals that take you to both distant yet incredibly internal spaces. In my opinion Grails are one of the most formidable bands of our day. A tight knit group of dynamic players who simultaneously push their sound through the known gateways into uncharted territory while somehow remaining as hauntingly familiar as your own name. Perhaps they are improving on what has been taught to them, yet again, they may be opening new sonic doors be it through lulling the listener into a numbingly beautiful space or luring one into the dark recesses of their fucked up head. Either way, they are completely blowing your mind. Grails are one of my favorite bands of all time."

"Let’s face facts, the worlds of heavy guitar and drone music did not have much in common until Dylan Carlson and Earth seemed to come out of nowhere. Any project with the balls to name itself after the original name for Black Sabbath should have something intense to offer. What Earth brought forth was a minimal wall of distorted guitar bliss. A dreamtime music for the indie music world. Repetition so deep that the listeners ears and mind are altered to hear voices and subtleties that may or may not be there.
Slowly shifting yet endlessly sustaining, that chord would resonate through music and drone would eventually become part of modern heavy music vocabulary. As soon as they changed everything they disappeared in smoke only to reemerge years later. Bearing telecasters and evoking the literary dust covered blood stains of Cormac McCarthy with a narcotic pace, they are still changing the way we all perceive rock music."

"Not many display the DIY, "grab the bull by the horns" attitude the way Australia’s Grey Daturas do. Completely uncompromising music and total dedication to touring initially warmed our hearts to these amazing people. Not content to sit around and wait for something to happen, or for all the imaginary conditions to be right, Grey Daturas have toured the United States several times, mostly in the true underground art and noise spaces.
Expense, frustration and difficulties be damned, they show more balls than most bands that live in the U.S. or Europe.
Not many would reciprocate, and dare to throw it all to the wind and go to Grey Datura's part of the world. Uniting krautrock like jams, unstructured free noise, and psychedelic heavy rock into something unusual and heartfelt it will be a true joy to have their pure attitude and sound at Beyond the Pale."

Tribes of Neurot, the experimental soundscape sibling outfit to Neurosis will make a rare appearance at Beyond The Pale. Walter H, Roadburn's organizer comments: "Tribes of Neurot offer up a languidly swirling miasma of ambient psychedelica. Slowly cascading drones morph into startling glimpses of our own psyche's reflection and eventually fade back into hallucinogenic drones again. It is in these moments of unexpected self reflection that Tribes of Neurot prove that they offer up something unique in the field of ambient music.
They take their years of experience and put them to excellent use by adding layers of complexity and depth to their songs. The curious and the converted will be well rewarded for their attention, as sounds both soothing and foreboding will gently pull them into a blissful focused drift. See you down front when Tribes of Neurot round up three days of sonic exploration at Roadburn Festival 2009."

Also scheduled to appear at Beyond The Pale / Roadburn Festival 2009 are Akimbo, Guapo, Neurosis, OM,  Six Organs of Admittance, Skullflower, A Storm of Light, U.S. Christmas & The Young Gods, with more bands to be announced.

Neurosis & Roadburn are proud to announce
OM, Six Organs of Admittance,
Skullflower & A Storm of Light
for Beyond the Pale at Roadburn 2009.

?br>
"Om is the heaviest band to ever walk the face of the earth"   -- Scott Kelly, Neurosis.
?br> OM, Six Organs of Admittance, Skullflower and A Storm of Light, along with Neurosis have been confirmed for the inaugural European version of Neurosis’ acclaimed Beyond The Pale festival, set to be held at Roadburn 2009 on Saturday, April 25, the 013 venue, Tilburg, Holland.

"Om is such a rare bird in the vast landscape that is sound, music, art, and emotive expression that they absolutely defy description", says Scott Kelly, "The straightest line is the quickest path to the godhead, Om know this, it is the foundation of their mountain. The meditative nature of the patterns and rhythms found within the speaker flexing sonic blanket that they weave is unparalleled. Om is the heaviest band to ever walk the face of the earth."

"Josh Graham is a prolific individual, a man driven to create. In the years that we have spent together collaborating in Neurosis he has shown himself to be a visionary artist as well as a diligent worker. A Storm Of Light is born of this obsession; it is an ominous sound, a cloud of oppressive doomage. Equal parts heavy and hypnotic, A Storm Of Light is a band grown from truth."

Steve Von Till comments:  "All must bow before the pagan wall of drone --I couldn't agree more with the opening quote of Skullflower's semi-official website. Hearing the tortured distorted and eerily shamanic drones emanate from the stereo for the first time in the early nineties was truly a revelation. "IIIrd Gatekeeper" and "Obsidian Shaking Codex" are two of my all time favorite albums and have been extremely influential on the way my brothers and I approach guitar-based heavy music: to grab an electric guitar, drive a loud amplifier to its physical limit, and ride the drone into oblivion is ecstasy, and Matthew Bower has been showing us all how it is done for 20-odd years. Finally after all these years we will all get to witness the power together at Beyond The Pale 2009."

"The words "psych folk', although being a genre of music I feel a passion and affinity for, have begun to lose their meaning and significance over the last several years. A so-called "revival" has dredged up wave upon wave of shallow rehash. Ben Chasny and his Six Organs of Admittance, often tagged by that limiting genre, is a bright flower of inspiration to bring us all hope and remind us that as movements devolve, free spirits can rise above and remain vital among the pale imitators. Fearless and able to avoid the pitfalls and traps of classification he has constantly managed to play cathartic soul music.  Not "soul" music, but music that accompanies transformation and the journey of one’s spirit. We are pleased to have this tonal psychonaut join us for this special event."

Also scheduled to appear at Beyond The Pale / Roadurn 2009 are The Young Gods, Akimbo, Guapo and U.S. Christmas, with more bands to be announced.

Roadburn 2009 will run for three days from Thursday, April 23 to Saturday, April 25 at the 013 venue in Tilburg, Holland. There will be an additional Afterburner event on Sunday, April 26, 2009. Pre sales for Beyond The Pale / Roadburn 2009 will start, Saturday, December 13th. More info about Roadburn, including confirmed bands for Beyond The Pale and the full festival will follow soon.

Roadburn Festival 2009
Neurosis is bringing their brilliant "Beyond The Pale" festival to Roadburn 2009.

Roadburn2009

The mission of Beyond the Pale is for us to honor the spirit and  power of sound with people that we feel are kindred spirits. We want to bring together a diverse group of people who push the envelope, are truly original, and have that unspeakable fire and inspiration  flowing through their art. -Steve Von Till

In our 23 years of existence we have had very few experiences that felt as right as our initial performance at Roadburn in 2007. Roadburn is a unique experience in the often disappointing and disingenuous world of music, it is a festival organized and run by people with a true passion and dedication to sound. In the spirit of this commitment we are proud to announce that the day of April 25, 2009 at Roadburn will be a rekindling of 'Beyond The Pale. We will be performing as well as curating the entire days events. -Scott Kelly Roadburn is very pleased to invite our spiritual brethren from Neurosis to host a European version of their "Beyond The Pale" festival. We couldn't imagine anyone being more attuned to the atmosphere and energy of Roadburn than Neurosis, and offering them the opportunity to stage the first ever "Beyond The Pale" outside of the U.S. is our way of honoring their enormous contributions to underground music as well as their iconic style and sound.

On Saturday, April 25, Neurosis will have complete freedom to invite all the bands and set the lineups for each of the stages. Over the years, Neurosis has exhibited an amazing commitment and dedication to the art of underground music, something that we at Roadburn understand and appreciate completely. We are looking forward to the new ideas that they will bring to the festival, as we feel they are truly kindred spirits. We look forward to uniting at Roadburn 2009.

Steve Von Till comments: "It is a great honor and privilege to have asked to host our own Beyond the Pale event at Roadburn 2009. Since playing Roadburn 2007, we could think of no better people to work with on this event than the organizers and promoters of Roadburn and the wonderful staff at the 013. Roadburn is a completely different experience than the traditional music festival. It is a small, intimate, extremely well organized festival, put together by people who love the bands, and thrive on creating a  unique social vibe where the lines between artist, audience, and  staff are often completely blurred."

"2009 also marks the 10th anniversary of our own label, Neurot Recordings. What an amazing way to mark our first decade as a  label.I believe that Roadburn and Neurosis share a clarity of vision that will result in an amazing experience for us all."

Roadburn 2009 will run for three days from Thursday, April 23 to Saturday, April 25 at the 013 venue in Tilburg, Holland. There will be an additional afterburner event on Sunday, April 26, 2009.

Check out the Neurot Recordings "Beyond the Pale" page here for more information.

As you may recall, Tone collaborated with a dance company from 2004 through early 2006.

Well, the dance company - Bowen McCauley - actually put the footage up on YouTube, so we can finally give you a sense of what that was all about: http://youtube.com/watchv=CDX-UvCRjGE

The above link is Part 4 of 5 from the work called "Telemetry." You will recognize it as the track MoonPony from Tone's Solidarity disc. [click here for link to Solidarity in the NR store]

This footage is from the Nov. 2004 show at the Kennedy Center Terrace Theater.
There is no PA; this is room sound, which is actually pretty great (they may have put one or two on the drums, but that was it).

You can view all 5 parts through the YouTube links below:

Neurosis has just returned from Europe where they played shows in France, Sweden, Norway and England. Many thanks to the folks at Hellfest, Debaser, Hovefestival and Underworld/Shepherd's Bush Empire (and Jodie at Mammoth Booking) for four good shows. Neurosis will return in 2008, with shows tentatively scheduled for Germany. Other European shows will be announced as schedules permit.

Please note the following additions to the NR online store: Neurosis, Give To The Rising DLP (along with the promo DVD), two new related tshirts, and a combo pack which includes the black GTTR shirt, CD and promo DVD.

We have some news about the 20th anniversary poster re-run courtesy of the kind folks at Burlesque. There is no firm ETA as yet, but schedules have freed up to a certain degree, so the band and Wes are speaking about a possible plan. We'll keep you posted as we know more. Thank you once again for your patience in the matter. Rest assured that once we have these and are ready to ship them out that they will be properly packed - the poster tubes are already in-house, and the butcher paper will be by the time we have the posters. Many thanks to the kind folks at VLV for their consultation and advice in our time of greatest need.

Keep your eyes peeled here for fall/winter Neurosis dates in the U.S. As soon as the confirmations come in, they will be posted on the tour pages here and on the Neurosis site.

Fall releases include full lengths by Buried At Sea and Savage Republic as well as a 4 song EP by U.S. Christmas (your new favorite Southern stoner rock band). U.S. Christmas full-length due out on NR in the first half of 2008.

That's it for now. More to come.
